As a not-for-profit organisation East Coast Whale Study relies on the support of our volunteers to operate. Whether by working as research assistants or running our Skypoint outreach program, it’s their dedicated work that allows us to do the good work that we’re able to do.
As one of our research assistants, you would be working on our vessels to monitor and record the whales along the coast. You would learn to collect and record data, take identification photos and track GPS data, of course learning a lot about whale and dolphin behaviour as you go.
While volunteering as a research assistant is a big commitment, we reward our volunteers by training and mentoring them through the role, providing them with the opportunity to go out into the sea and embrace them into a community of passionate citizen scientists. If you want to help out from dry land, we have an option for you too! Our Skypoint Outreach volunteers spend time at the top of the Q1 meeting the community, educating children on marine life and raising awareness of the importance of conservation work.
You can help us run fun activities for children of all ages, like badge making, colouring in and whale watching from the scenic view of Skypoint.
